WHAT’S NEW IN CEBU

Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose is touching down in Cebu for the very first time. He’s headlining a free public fan event at SM Seaside City Cebu on August 26.

What to Expect

  • Hoops and hip-hop: The action starts at 11 a.m. Expect a mix of basketball games, fan activities, and a live performance by Filipino rapper Skusta Clee.

  • Strict age limit: While getting in won't cost you a peso, the event is strictly for guests aged 21 and up since it's hosted by a sports betting platform.

The Move

SM Seaside will be an absolute zoo by mid-morning, so get there right when the mall doors open if you actually want a clear view of the stage. Expect heavy traffic buildup along the SRP, and consider parking near the Mountain Wing to save yourself a headache when everyone tries to leave at once.

THE SPECS

1. The Vault Room

Instagram post

A sophisticated speakeasy hidden behind what looks like a stylish liquor shop front, known for its excellent menu of signature drinks.

  • Location: Oakridge Business Park (inside Charlton Trade & Enterprise), Banilad, Mandaue City

  • Operating Hours: Monday to Thursday - 5:00 PM – 12:00 AM; Friday and Saturday - 6:00 PM – 1:00 AM

  • Estimated Cost Per Head: ₱400 – ₱1,000

  • Aggregated Rating & Sentiment: 4.7/5. Visitors love the warm, luxe vibe, the friendly staff, and the creative signature drinks (including their fun bank-and-money-themed cocktails).

  • The Experience: It feels like a private, polished lounge. While the acoustics are usually great with the music kept at a nice level, keep in mind that the room is small, so it can get a bit noisy for chatting when the bar is fully packed.

  • Perfect Match: Couples on a date night or a small group of friends looking for a dark, upscale, and cozy spot to unwind.

  • The Next Move: Grab their menu and ask the bartender to recommend one of their signature cocktails.

2. The Bar Cebu

A clever, laid-back hidden bar tucked away behind a fully functional convenience store shelf.

  • Location: The Orchard Hotel, A.S. Fortuna Street, Mandaue City

  • Operating Hours & Peak Traffic: 6:00 PM – 2:00 AM daily. It gets busy around 9:00 PM as the after-dinner crowd rolls in.

  • Estimated Cost Per Head: ₱500 – ₱900 for signature drinks and light bites.

  • Aggregated Rating & Sentiment: 4.5/5. Guests rave about the fun entrance and solid drink quality, but note that the space is quite small, so it gets crowded quickly.

  • The Experience: Fun, slightly mysterious, and energetic once you step through the secret door. The lighting is dim and moody, with upbeat lounge music setting a lively weekend tone.

  • Perfect Match: Friend groups looking for a unique start to their night out or a memorable spot for post-dinner drinks.

  • The Next Move: Grab a spot at the bar counter if you can. Watching the bartenders work in the tight space is half the fun.
